Fantasy Alert: Josh Jacobs ‘Running Real Routes’ After Signing Packers Contract

Josh Jacobs could be an even bigger threat offensively with the Green Bay Packers after a down 2023 season.

The former Las Vegas Raiders running back said during an appearance on NFL Network’s The Insider’s that his new coach has him “running real routes” in practice.

“Just to be able to come out and actually show that I can catch the ball more,” Jacobs said. “Not just that but trusting me enough to be able to pick up protections. It’s just so special when you got a guy like Jordan Love back there, and you can’t really just load the box every play, and you make defenses decide what they want to stop. I think that’s going to be the biggest help for me this year.”

After catching just 37 passes last year with the Raiders, Jacobs could have more versatility in 2024, making him a potential sleeper in points-per-reception fantasy football leagues.

Jacobs, meanwhile, is also extremely high on his new quarterback after signing with Green Bay. The veteran spoke highly of Packers quarterback Jordan Love and said that he believes he can become an elite quarterback in the NFL.

“To me, just from what I’ve seen, he has all the traits and all the tools to be a superstar in this league,” Jacobs said. “I think that as he keeps continuing to play and gets experience and becomes more confident in his abilities and what he can do, he’s going to be the next superstar in this league, for sure.”

Love is preparing for his fifth season in the NFL but it is just his second as the team’s starter. It was a very successful one, as he threw for 4,159 yards and 32 touchdowns and led Green Bay to a 9-8 record.

The Packers earned the final NFC Wild Card spot and upset the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card Round. The playoff run would end in the Divisional Round at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers, but it was still an excellent run that showed a bright future ahead.

Adding Jacobs in free agency was a move to make Love’s job easier. The two-time Pro Bowler had 5,545 rushing yards and 46 touchdowns in his career. His 2022 season was particularly special, as he led the league with 1,653 rushing yards, scored 12 rushing touchdowns and even contributed 400 yards in the passing game.

Love has two dynamic running backs with Jacob and A.J. Dillon and will hope to show further improvement with the Packers offense in 2024.
