Two Philadelphia Phillies Sluggers Lead All-Star Game Voting
Two players from the Philadelphia Phillies are in the lead in phase two of the All-Star game voting after one day of voting.
On Monday, MLB announced the percentages at every position. At Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, on July 16, there will be an All-Star Game.
In the event that any Phillies make it past the second round of voting, they will start alongside first baseman Bryce Harper. Last week, he secured his position as the top vote-getter in the NL. Each league’s top vote-getter earns a starting position.
Even though phase one votes did not carry over, Alec Bohm, the third baseman from San Diego, has a significant advantage over Manny Machado. Bohm was one of the select few players to receive at least three million votes in phase one. With 70% of the vote, Bohm has the widest margin of any NL position player.
After the first day of results, only Adley Rutschman, the catcher for Baltimore, had a better vote spread.
Shortstop With 53% of the vote, Trea Turner is the other Phillies player in the lead. Turner finds himself in an intriguing situation as his rival, Mookie Betts of the Los Angeles Dodgers, is sidelined until after the All-Star break due to an injury.
Voting is open until Wednesday at noon eastern time, and the ballot can be accessed at mlb.com/vote. Fans are limited to one vote every day. On Wednesday at 7 p.m. Eastern, ESPN will reveal the winners and starting lineups. This weekend, the pitching staff and reserves will be revealed.
There is work ahead of the other Phillies vying for starting positions.
J.T. Realmuto, a catcher, is trailing William Contreras of the Milwaukee Brewers, who has 60% of the vote. Similar to Betts, Realmuto won’t be back until after the All-Star break. Realmuto is recuperating from surgery on his knee.
With 61% of the vote, Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers leads the race, followed by designated hitter Kyle Schwarber.
Both of the Phillies’ outfield candidates are trailing in the polls, but neither is far from the top spot.
Christian Yelich of Milwaukee took the lead with 21%, followed closely by Jurickson Profar of San Diego with 20%. The remaining four contenders, which include Nick Castellanos and Brandon Marsh of Philadelphia, are clustered within two percentage points of one another.
Fernando Tatis Jr. of San Diego is at16%, followed by Marsh at 15%, Castellanos at 14%, and Teoscar Hernandez of the Dodgers at 14%.
Tatis’s absence until after the All-Star break, like that of Betts and Realmuto, could influence the outcome of the vote.
Ketel Marte of Arizona leads Luis Arraez of San Diego at second base with 55% of the vote.
