Thumb surgery sidelines Eli Tomac for Supercross finale, start of Pro Motocross
Tomac stated in a press release, “This is not the news I wanted to break to everyone, but I crashed on my thumb at the Denver Supercross in Free Practice. It resulted in a Bennett fracture and some torn ligaments that will require surgery to stabilize my thumb.” “It is difficult for me to accept that I will miss the start of the motocross season, but I have hope that I will be able to compete in the SuperMotocross World Championship rounds and the later outdoor season.”
“I want to express my gratitude to Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing and all of my fans for their unwavering support throughout the Supercross season. We intend to return stronger in the latter part of the current season.
With a healthy 237-point lead over 21st in the standings, Tomac is currently in third place in SMX points and has no chance of losing his automatic postseason invitation. Although points are given for a rider’s seeding, Tomac wants to be as high in the standings as possible. The top-20 riders at the conclusion of the Motocross season do not have to compete in the Last Chance Qualifiers.
