Just a few hours before he was scheduled to perform, Matt Rife canceled two comedy events.
Due to a “unexpected medical emergency,” the 28-year-old comedian had to cancel his two gigs at Indiana University’s Auditorium in Bloomington, Indiana on May 29. The announcement was made on the official Instagram page of the venue.
He posted on Instagram Stories and X (formerly Twitter) saying, “I have to reschedule our shows tonight (again) due to a last-minute medical emergency.” “It’s the first time I’ve had to do something like this in my year and a half of doing over forty shows a month.”
“I hope you understand, and I love you so much,” he said in closing.
Rife informed guests that reimbursements would be given for the two events in a follow-up to his X post. “Now working on it,” he promised. “I apologize once more.”
On Instagram, the location verified that refunds will be “reflected within 30 days.”
Additionally, Rife would have to postpone his forthcoming gigs in Chicago and Nashville “due to immediate health concerns,” according to an email ticket buyers got from venues.
“On the way to a recent show in Indiana, Matt experienced extreme exhaustion symptoms and nearly fainted heading to the venue,” the message adds. “Matt is currently under advisement from his medical team to take immediate time off from touring for two weeks.”
The statement stated that “future dates will not be affected,” and that the comedian’s tour will resume on June 12 in Memphis. The Chicago Theater events have been rescheduled for December 26, 27, 29, and 30, while fresh dates for the Ryman Auditorium performances are still pending. If fans are unable to attend the rescheduled stops, the email provides a refund “at point of purchase.”
Rife is currently on a stand-up comedy tour that will take him around North America and Europe, with a stop in Abu Dhabi, UAE. His ProbleMATTic tour was scheduled to conclude with two November shows in Oxon Hill, Maryland.
Deadline revealed in April that the former Wild ‘n Out actor has inked a two-special contract with Netflix following the success of his first special on the platform, Natural Selection. Rife also earned a development agreement for a gym/workplace comedy series, which he will write and star in.
