SUPERSTAR SONGWRITER, RECORD PRODUCER, AND AUTHOR BENNY BLANCO MAKES HIS STERN SHOW DEBUT

Maybe Benny Blanco has the Midas touch. The superstar songwriter, record producer, and music executive is nominated for eleven Grammy awards and has won five BMI Songwriter of the Year awards. He has worked with legendary artists like Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Adam Levine, SZA, Britney Spears, Sia, Ed Sheeran, and Selena Gomez—the latter of whom is currently his girlfriend—to create over thirty chart-topping hits. Blanco is undoubtedly at the top of his game and has been for over 15 years. Almost everything he touches turns to gold, including TV shows (check out “Dave” on FXX) and culinary projects like his recently released cookbook, “Open Wide: A Cookbook for Friends.”

Without a doubt, everyone wants a taste of what the legendary 36-year-old producer turned celebrity chef is serving up these days, but Benny freely acknowledges that when it comes to creating hit songs, he doesn’t fully understand the process.

During his Tuesday morning appearance on The Stern Show, Blanco told Howard, “I really think that music has a magical quality.” “Everyone is constantly asking, ‘How do you do it?'” I swear to God, I go completely unconscious, and when I wake up, I’m covered in crumbs and a song has finished.

In their epic two-hour conversation, which covered everything from his low-key Virginia upbringing to what it’s like to date one of the world’s biggest celebrities, Benny was as open and friendly as he could be. He acknowledged that he didn’t think of himself as a naturally talented musician, but he did say that he fell in love with music at a young age while discussing his success as a producer. He admitted to Howard, “I don’t really know how to [play] anything.” “I can hear the entire song in my head, even though I’m the epitome of mediocrity in every way.”

His repertoire also includes persuading musicians to write songs. I work as a therapist, basically. That’s what I do,” Blanco said. “I spend hours trying to put whatever the worst issue or insecurity in your life is on paper so that you and I both adore it and, hopefully, a lot of other people do too.”
