Getting to know new ECU QB commit Chaston Ditta

Austin (Texas) Lake Travis three-star quarterback Chaston Ditta explains why he chose the Pirates and shares his journey from The Lone Star State to ECU’s 2025 recruiting class.

Lake Travis High School in Austin, Texas, is no stranger to producing high-caliber quarterbacks, and East Carolina’s coaching staff believes it may have gotten the latest standout from the school in the form of Chaston Ditta.

A three-star prospect from the Lone Star state, Ditta committed to ECU publicly on Tuesday on the heels of his official visit to campus. The three-star class of 2025 prospect chose the Pirates over programs such as Colorado State, James Madison, Marshall and others. He had interest from several prominent schools in the area, but due to starting only half a season as a junior for Lake Travis, Ditta’s recruitment has been a bit more quiet than some stellar Lake Travis quarterbacks before him.

Hudson Card, Garrett Gilbert and Baker Mayfield are among the most recent big-name quarterbacks that starred at Lake Travis and have gone on to have strong football careers, in different ways. Mayfield, the most successful quarterback of that group thus far, was the lowest-rated and actually started his career as a walk-on at Texas Tech. He was a three-star prospect (84 overall) by 247Sports out of Lake Travis.

Ditta is currently rated 82 overall as a three-star. Gilbert was a five-star recruit. Card was a four-star out of high school. Both Gilbert and Card were consensus blue-chippers. Ditta is holding himself to the level they all set before him.

“I just feel like that sets the standard. It’s like you have to be that good,” Ditta said. “There’s no ifs, ands, or buts about it. You have to be great. You have to hold yourself accountable to that standard. You’ve got to be that level kind of guy.”

The construction of East Carolina’s 2025 recruiting class has hit full stride, with a handful of commitments jumping onboard last week after a successful initial official visit weekend of June. With the arrival of Thursday, June 13, the Pirates will welcome in another large crop of visitors as the commitment list looks to swell even further.

ECU currently – at the time of this publishing – has six players committed for the 2025 class. The group includes five offensive players, and one on defense. ECU is scheduled to host 11 official visitors in the coming days, with a handful on both sides of the ball.
