WWE Seemingly Delays Roman Reigns Return Plans

Roman Reigns is no longer there. After holding the title of Undisputed WWE Universal Champion for 1,316 days, The Tribal Chief entered WWE WrestleMania 40 as the most dominant champion in decades. On the opening night of the Showcase of the Immortals, Reigns teamed up with his cousin Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and defeated Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins to guarantee that his title defense the next night would be contested under “Bloodline Rules,” tipping the odds incredibly in his favor. Even with the advantage, Rhodes overcome the challenges to defeat Reigns, winning the title his father never won and starting his gold run.

The return of the Head of the Table is once again ambiguous.

Roman Reigns was recently promoted for the August 2nd episode of WWE SmackDown, which is the last WWE show before WWE SummerSlam. Reigns’ appearance on that program would suggest that WWE also had plans for him at the biggest summertime event.

Over the past day, that has altered. The official WWE website states that “featured superstar information for this event is not yet available” in reference to the August 2nd WWE SmackDown episode’s lack of talent promotion. The official header features WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, WWE Women’s Champion Bayley, LA Knight, WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill, and Randy Orton even in the absence of any named advertised talent. Reigns is still not present.

This change in the advertising suggests that WWE has either postponed plans for Reigns’s comeback or is seeing strong ticket sales for the event and has decided to change the advertised appearance of Reigns to a surprise.
