If the Pistons fire Monty Williams, he could become one of the Lakers’ options for their head coaching vacancy.
If the Pistons fire Monty Williams, he could become one of the Lakers’ options for their head coaching vacancy.
JJ Redick has emerged as the frontrunner to land the Los Angeles Lakers’ head coaching job.
But NBA writer Marc Stein stated that Monty Williams “could potentially surface” as an option for the Lakers if the Detroit Pistons let him go.
Detroit is going through an organizational shakeup after hiring Trajan Langdon as the head of basketball operations, and there’s a possibility that the franchise could part ways with Williams.
Williams had been pursued by the Lakers in the past before the Lakers hired Frank Vogel in 2019, Stein reported, but Williams eventually signed with the Phoenix Suns.
The Pistons are currently evaluating Williams, who signed with the team last year on a 6-year, $73 million contract, according to The Athletic’s James L. Edwards III.
The franchise is also expected to let go of general manager Troy Weaver.
