The Pittsburgh Penguins’ head of hockey operations and general manager, Kyle Dubas, announced on Tuesday that defenseman Jack St. Ivany had been re-signed to a three-year, two-way contract.
The contract has an average annual value of $775,000 in the NHL and runs through the 2026-27 season.
St. Ivany spent the most of the 2023-24 season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League. In 54 games, the 24-year-old recorded 15 points (four goals and 11 assists).
The 6-foot-3, 198-pound defenceman has 117 career AHL games, all of which have been with the Penguins. St. Ivany scored 23 points (four goals, 19 assists) during two seasons and played in two postseason games during the 2023-24 season.
He made his NHL debut on March 22 against the Dallas Stars, and his first career point came on April 2 against the New Jersey Devils. St. Ivany appeared in 14 NHL games this season with Pittsburgh, recording one assist.
Before turning professional, St. Ivany played four seasons of college hockey. After scoring 30 points (seven goals, 23 assists) in 62 games at Yale University, he transferred to Boston College and finished with 30 points (five goals, 25 assists) in 53 games across two seasons.
The Manhattan Beach, California native has also represented the United States, playing in seven games at the U-20 World Junior Championship in 2019.
St. Ivany was originally drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the fourth round (No. 112) of the 2018 NHL Draft. He never played with the Flyers and joined the Penguins when he signed a two-year, entry-level contract as a free agent on Aug. 20, 2022.
The Penguins missed the playoffs for the second straight season after holding the NHL’s longest active postseason streak of 16 years. Pittsburgh won the Stanley Cup three times over that span (2009, 2016, 2017).
