Tennessee basketball defeated Texas in March Madness and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16, securing a spot in the tournament.

Tennessee basketball secured its third Sweet 16 appearance under coach Rick Barnes, beating Texas 62-58 at Spectrum Center. The Vols will face No. 3 Creighton in Detroit, with their second Elite Eight on the line.

Dalton Knecht led the No. 2 Vols with 18 points, and the Vols made six free throws in the final 24.3 seconds to win against the No. 7 Longhorns. UT was 3-for-25 on 3-pointers.

Tennessee secured a Sweet 16 spot by securing a defense victory against Texas, despite a poor offensive performance. The Vols, led by offensive catalyst Tobe Awaka, forced 17 turnovers.

Awaka scored eight points and four rebounds before halftime, but picked up two fouls. He returned for the second half, netting 10 points and five rebounds, setting a UT record.

Dalton Knecht of Tennessee missed his first field goal and two free throws in a Texas game, resulting in a 1-for-7 shooting record and missing all four first-half 3-point attempts.
