Former Penn State Nittany Lion PJ Mustipher has signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, following his signing with the team at the start of NFL Free agency. Mustipher, who previously played for the Philadelphia Eagles, expressed his admiration for the team’s accomplishments and the talent on the defensive line. He stated that being part of the Eagles was the best decision for his career moving forward.

The Eagles are seeking a second chance for defensive tackle Mustipher, who has shown potential in his first season with the team, following the retirement of former All-Pro Fletcher Cox. The team believes Mustipher can contribute more than Cox did.

Former Penn State defensive tackle, Mustipher, is struggling to find his footing in the NFL after torn his ACL in October 2021 during a loss to Iowa. Despite returning to start the 2022 season, he was not the same player due to his condensed recovery timeline.

An injury at Penn State in 2021 led to Mustipher going undrafted in 2022. After the draft, the Denver Broncos picked him up and he spent the first part of his rookie season on the practice squad. Mustipher joined the New Orleans Saints in December after being signed off the Broncos practice squad. He tallied one stop on 42 snaps in the NFL record book.

Mustipher, weighing 318 pounds, is expected to fill the one-technique role behind Jordan Davis, providing run-stuffing skills at the defensive tackle position for the Eagles. The team has spent first-round picks on college superstars Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis, and Milton Williams was a third-round selection in 2021.

Former Penn State Nittany Lions, including Smith and Barkley, are part of the Eagles roster. Brandon Smith, a former linebacker, spent part of last season on the Eagles practice squad after being released by the Carolina Panthers and signing a futures contract.

Penn State offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki discusses the progress made during the first week of spring football.
