Whom Could Georgia Football’s Next Big Player Be Before G-Day?
With the formal announcement of G-Day, it’s now time to forecast which athlete will emerge as the standout throughout spring workouts.
College football is gradually returning to the football field as spring practices for teams all around the nation will soon begin. One of the teams that is about to resume work is the Georgia Bulldogs, as G-Day was formally declared last night.
It appears like a single player had a breakthrough performance either in the sessions leading up to or during the spring game every spring. Bulldog Nation will be different this year than it was the year before, when Lawson Luckie and Mekhi Mews took the lead. Which player this year—a rookie, a transfer, or a member of the team already—has the ability to do that? Let’s talk about it.
The Bulldogs will undoubtedly use this spring to assess what they have to replace the gaps left by the loss of several essential components of their success this offseason. Georgia has more than enough potential to stand out thanks to the inclusion of transfer portals and one of the finest recruiting classes overall with a large number of early enrollees.
They need to find a few guys to take Kamari Lassiter, Tykee Smith, and Javon Bullard’s position as the secondary three on the defensive end of the ball. With several excellent players like KJ Bolden and Joenel Aguero back there, the new coaches in the secondary room might not have to search far. Aguero has now participated in the program for a whole year.
It’s not only Brock Bowers you’re losing on the offensive end of the ball. You’re losing both of your running backs and your top two wide receiver options. There is a ton of potential in the running back room, including Roderick Robinson II, Branson Robinson, and Trevor Ettienne, a transfer from the Florida Gators. This spring, Dell McGee will have a wide range of alternatives to choose from, as well as a large group of players who have the potential to earn significant playing time in the next campaign.
However, the wide receiver room glares at you as you keep scanning the roster, realizing how much you are losing. You’re not too sure what to expect from the receiving corps this season except from Dominic Lovett, Dillon Bell, and Rara Thomas, who are all returning and have shown why they were a strong choice off the transfer portal last season. Kirby Smart made the addition of London Humphries from Vanderbilt and Colbie Young from Miami, respectively, knowing that they would be able to contribute right away to the club. But the person you should watch is someone who is already well-established in the program. Anthony Evans III would be the player.
Evans saw action in Georgia’s 2023 season finale Orange Bowl victory over Florida State. He finished with one reception for 14 yards and a great touchdown grab in addition to returning two punts for a total of 21 yards. Beyond his touchdown catch, the box score doesn’t reveal much, but if Evans has a strong spring campaign before fall camp, he may move up the depth chart.
