Despite having a 7-6 record, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ recent performance is unacceptable. The Steelers need to make some up top changes, which is uncommon in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh has always placed a premium on stability and consistency, and with good cause considering their past achievements. The Steelers have only had three head coaches since 1969: Mike Tomlin, Bill Cowher, and Chuck Noll.

Since taking over as head coach in 2007, Tomlin has led the Pittsburgh Steelers to two Super Bowl appearances. 2008 saw the Steelers overcome the Arizona Cardinals and win the game. It’s difficult if the Steelers decide at the conclusion of the season to cut company with Tomlin.

Although stability is desirable, good things eventually come to an end. Although Tomlin is unquestionably one of the best NFL coaches, he is not invincible. For a variety of reasons, the team has ceased replying to him, and given the expectations this team has set for itself, this is unacceptable. After Week 14, many teams would kill for a 7-6 record, but not the Pittsburgh Steelers. Not a club that has lost its past two games against the NFL’s bottom-feeding teams in 2023—the Cardinals and the New England Patriots. The Patriots had scored 13 points in total in their previous three games going into Week 14’s Thursday Night Football. In the first half, New England scored 21 points, almost twice as much as the Steelers had allowed. It’s

Art Rooney: Mike Tomlin is “one of the best coaches in the league” and the Steelers are happy to have him.

Under Mike Tomlin, the Pittsburgh Steelers had immediate success. In his first season (2007), they lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the playoffs, but in 2008, they defeated the Arizona Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII. The success rate has kind of leveled out after Pittsburgh’s Super Bowl XLV loss to the Green Bay Packers. Art Rooney II has been transparent about his faith in Tomlin, a sentiment he reiterated in a media interview with the club.

The front office fully trusts Tomlin of the Steelers.

While many head coaches in the NFL go through ups and downs, Tomlin’s path has been a touch different. Whether he likes it or not, Tomlin’s calling card as the head coach of the Steelers has never once accumulated a losing regular season record. Even while that figure is astounding, Steelers supporters expect more than just a winning season after years of the same.

Rooney II talked about the 2023 season and what to anticipate for the 2024 campaign and beyond in an interview on Wednesday. Regarding Tomlin and the franchise’s confidence in him, Rooney II was questioned. The president of the Steelers wasn’t afraid to publicly support Tomlin for the foreseeable future and make it clear which club was led by a better coach.

Steelers Want Things To Be Different in 2024
Every NFL club enters a new season feeling at least somewhat realistically that they have the potential to win the Super Bowl, but when did it last seem true in Pittsburgh? Without winning another Lombardi Trophy, the last years with Ben Roethlisberger at quarterback came to a conclusion, and 2022–2023 hasn’t been much better. The organization is aware of this, and their goal is to assemble a team that rivals are afraid to play against.

Since Roethlisberger is no longer a quarterback, his gunslinger, anything-is-possible mentality has also retired. Despite Kenny Pickett’s great hopes and accolades, Mason Rudolph was ultimately the one who led the Steelers into the 2023 playoffs. Even though Rudolph was only able to secure a postseason spot, this speaks more highly about Pickett than of Rudolph. It is unacceptable to merely scrape by in 2024; either Pickett or Rudolph must make some sort of progress.
