JUSR IN: Michigan coach ask to leave due to…..
Jim Harbaugh’s position on 247Sports’ 2023 coaches list
How fast things evolve.
Jim Harbaugh, the head coach of the Michigan football team, was under fire just a few years ago because he was unable to defeat rival Ohio State, make the College Football Playoffs, or even smell Indianapolis. It wasn’t even a year ago that he was regarded as the conference’s best coach, but that has changed in only two years. Depending on who was ranking the teams, either James Franklin of Penn State or Ryan Day of OSU would typically win the honor; however, Harbaugh was usually only marginally above of Franklin.
Harbaugh was ranked No. 6 by Brad Crawford of 247Sports last year, ahead of Day, Franklin, and Kirk Ferentz of Iowa. However, he was ranked 20th in 2021, below all three of them and former Wisconsin coach Paul Chryst.

According to Matrix Analytical Solutions’ statistical methodology, the head coach of the Cardinals is among the best in college football.
LOUISVILLE, KY: Going into the upcoming 2023 season, not only are several statistical models highly optimistic about the Louisville football team, but one model has even higher expectations for their new head coach.
In 2009, Matrix Analytical Solutions created the Coach Rating Index, a statistical model that “measures the careers of all on-field coaches” by utilizing “a massive grading system with over 30,000 individual unit profiles and over 250,000 annual coaching result reports.”
The information from Matrix Analytical Solutions is not made public since they often sell it to coaches and athletic departments to aid with their hiring decisions, but 247Sports was given first access to the information.
According to the CRI, Jeff Brohm, who was hired as the head coach of the University of Florida in December, is among the top head coaches in college football history. He ranks No. 10 on the list with a 78.86 rating. The nine coaches in front of him are Nick Saban, Kirby Smart, Lincoln Riley, Ryan Day, Dabo Swinney, Jim Harbaugh, Chris Klieman, Hugh Freeze, and Josh Heupel.
According to Brandon Marcello of 247Sports, “Brohm’s record isn’t elite but it is considering the context of the competition and talent at those schools.” “Remember, the CRI grades coaches on their win-loss records but also weigh the “difficulty/importance” of those games in nine distinct categories ranging from expected close-margin games to how they perform in games with equivalent talent profiles.”

During his six years in charge, Brohm led the Purdue program—which had finished 9-39 under the previous administration—to a 36-34 overall record and a 26-25 record in Big Ten play, including an 8-5 record and a Big Ten West title this past season. Purdue was 7-11 versus top-25 opponents under Brohm, including a 3-1 record.
Before moving to West Lafayette, Indiana, Brohm was the head coach of Western Kentucky for three years, from 2014 to 2016. Since the Hilltoppers moved to the FBS in 2007, he has been their most successful coach, leading them to an overall 30-10 record. Following their first-ever AP Top 25 rating as an FBS member in 2015, WKU finished 12-2 overall and 8-0 in C-USA play. In 2016, they had a 9-3 regular season.
The Cardinals defeated Cincinnati 24-7 in the Fenway Bowl to cap out their 2022 campaign with an overall record of 8-5 (4-4 in the ACC). At Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, they will play Georgia Tech in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Classic to begin their 2023 campaign.
