When the Buckeyes play in Columbus, they typically have 10,531 spectators in attendance. This indicates that during each of Ohio State’s home games, slightly more than half of the 18,809 seats are occupied.
Not even a matchup against one of the top 15 teams in the nation from the Big Ten Conference would do the trick. For the aforementioned game against the Illini, which the Buckeyes lost 87-75, just 10,285 seats were occupied.
Since defeating Penn State on January 20, Ohio State has now lost three straight games. The Buckeyes’ recent trend of giving up 80 points or more to their opponents—each time resulting in a loss—was also continued by Tuesday’s match.
Ohio State fans don’t have to go far to discover the last time the team failed to draw a crowd of this magnitude. The previous low was reached only a year ago, when Value City Arena was packed with 12,181 spectators for each game.
Ohio State still has time to make things right. To guarantee a winning record for the year, the Buckeyes must win three of their remaining 10 games.
