Sherrone Moore has been selected by Michigan to succeed Jim Harbaugh as head coach.

Sherrone Moore, who took over for Jim Harbaugh earlier this week when he accepted the head coaching position with the Los Angeles Chargers, was named the next head coach of Michigan on Friday.

Moore’s five-year contract includes a $500,000 basic salary and an extra $5 million in pay in the first year. Moore will earn $500,000 every contract year if he stays on as head coach for the full year, with his pay and supplemental bonus increasing by 2% each of the next several years.

“I have been preparing my entire coaching career for this opportunity and I can’t think of a better place to be head coach than at the University of Michigan,” Moore stated in a statement. “As a TEAM, we will exert every effort every day to carry on the 144-year tradition of championship football played at Michigan. We won’t be lowering our standards. We will be a championship-caliber football team that is intelligent, resilient, tenacious, passionate, and plays with a winged helmet, each other, and the game.

Prior to being hired by Harbaugh, Moore had coaching positions at Louisville and Central Michigan. He was appointed tight ends coach at Michigan prior to the 2018 season. Prior to the 2021 season, after the offensive line earned the Joe Moore Award as the best in college football for two consecutive seasons, he was named the offensive line coach and co-offensive coordinator.
