Coach of the Steelers’ strength and conditioning leaves the team
The Pittsburgh Steelers will look for a new head strength and conditioning coach over the offseason, something they haven’t had to do in a while.
After 23 years with the Steelers, head strength and conditioning coach Marcel Pastoor announced his departure on LinkedIn. Pastoor will be seeking for a new employment for the first time. He has worked with the Steelers since graduating from Pitt with a master’s degree.
“Steelers Nation, and all my connections, Thank you so much,” wrote Pastoor. “I have been unbelievably gifted to work for the greatest company, greatest owners, and coaches and staff for the past 23 years, and I am ready for a change.”
During his more than two decades of employment in Pittsburgh, Pastoor took the time to thank the Rooney family, Bill Cowher, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, his mentors, and the hundreds of athletes he worked with.
Pastoor completed his master’s degree at Pitt and his undergraduate degree at Virginia Tech. In the interim, he worked as an assistant strength coach volunteer at Radford University and as an intern strength coach with the Washington Commanders for two years, from 1999 to 2000.
Beginning in March 2001, he worked with the Steelers for 20 years as an assistant strength and conditioning coach. In March 2021, he was elevated to the head role, which he has maintained ever since.
