The goal of Alabama basketball is to defeat Auburn, a match that would significantly improve the Crimson Tide’s postseason resume.
Despite losing their first two games of the season, the Tigers have proven to be among the best teams in the country. Auburn has only dropped one game this season, 69-64 away to Appalachian State on the road on December 3, following a season-opening defeat to Baylor.
After that, the Tigers have won 11 straight games. They have also defeated Arkansas, Texas A&M, LSU, Vanderbilt, and Ole Miss to go 5-0 in SEC play.
Alabama, on the other hand, recently dropped their first conference game, falling short on the road by 20 points.
Junior guard Denver Jones is 6-foot-4 and weighs 205 pounds. Averages: 1.6 assists, 0.7 steals, 0.1 blocks, 2.2 rebounds, 0.8 turnovers, and 6.9 points.
Moving forward Senior Chris Moore is 6 feet 6 inches and 220 pounds. Averages: 0.9 assists, 0.4 blocks, 1.4 rebounds, 2.8 points, 0.3 steals, and 0.7 turnovers.
Senior forward Jaylin Williams is 6-foot-8 and weighs 245 pounds. 12.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.8 steals, 0.6 blocks, and 1.1 turnovers are averages.
Center Johni Broome, junior, 240 pounds, 6 feet 10 inches tall. 15.3 points, 8.4 rebounds, 1.7 steals, 1.2 assists, 1.9 blocks, and 1.7 turnovers are the averages.
In terms of rebounds and blocks per game, Broome leads the SEC.
Auburn’s lineup
With ten players averaging fifteen or more minutes per game this season, the Tigers boast a deep rotation. Auburn switches its starting five players frequently and swiftly. Tre Donaldson has averaged 18.4 minutes, KD Johnson has averaged 17.5 minutes, and Chad Baker-Mazara has averaged 20.4 minutes. Dylan Cardwell and Chaney Johnson are two more who will probably get a significant amount of time.
KenPom analyzes adjusted offensive and defensive efficiency, which are points scored and allowed per 100 possessions, to show how Auburn compares to Alabama in terms of scoring, defense, and tempo. In terms of both offensive and defense, Auburn is ranked in the top 10. That’s unusual, which makes it simple to understand why the Tigers have been successful.
Though not by much, Alabama will want to play faster than Auburn. The adjusted tempo statistic is calculated by KenPom using the number of possessions per 40 minutes.
Estimating a score
Auburn 89, Alabama 84: It’s been over two months since the Tigers’ last defeat. Alabama, however, continues to have some obvious problems that have occasionally surfaced in important games. The Crimson Tide’s advantage stems from the fact that this game is being played in Coleman Coliseum, but the Tigers have shown to be among the top teams in the nation. Right now, Alabama is not at that level.
