Nebraska fight back to Win Against Georgia Tech

After falling behind by 15, the Husker women rallied to win 80–72.

The Nebraska women’s basketball team prevailed on Saturday afternoon despite a poor first quarter.

The Huskers defeated Georgia Tech 80-72 after rallying from a 15-point hole. NU has never defeated the Yellow Jackets in program history; the two previous meetings ended in losses in 1992 and 2011.

After a back-and-forth first quarter, Nebraska led 16–12 at the half. However, the gunfire suddenly stopped.

Georgia Tech scored a 20–6 second quarter as the Huskers only made 3-of-19 shots. The Atlanta side carried over its good fortune into the third quarter, leading 42-27 after scoring 10 points in the opening 2:33 of the game.

Then the heat rose in Nebraska.

During the last 7:08 of the third quarter, the Huskers scored 28 points while hitting 87 percent of their shots. Nebraska took a 12-0 lead in the fourth quarter and never looked back.

For the game, Nebraska shot 52.5 percent, making 10 of 26 3-pointers. Georgia Tech made eight of their 26 3-point tries, good for a 46 percent shooting percentage.

With 22 points, Jaz Shelley led the way for Nebraska. She surpasses the 1,000-point threshold as a Husker with that total. In the annals of Nebraska women’s basketball, Shelley is the 37th player to reach 1,000 points for the red and cream.

Alexis Markowski scored 15 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to record her third straight double-double. With up to 25 double-doubles in her career, she currently shares fifth place on the program’s all-time lists with Jessica Shepherd.

Natalie Potts and Logan Nissley, both freshmen, combined for 24 points. In the last quarter, the two scored 11 of those points to help seal the win.

Tuesday, Nebraska hosts UNC Wilmington at home.
