Bad news: Philadelphia Phillies key player dad is found dead this morning…

Four-time All-Star and Washington Senators star Frank Howard passes away at the age of 87.
The MLB record for most home runs hit in a week is still held by Howard.

The Texas Rangers released a statement on Monday morning announcing the death of former All-Star outfielder and first baseman Frank Howard, who was 87 years old.

Throughout his 16 big-league seasons, Howard made appearances in patches. He finished his career with a slash line of.273/.352/.499 (142 OPS+), 382 home runs, and 1,119 runs batted in. In 1968, he was the major league leader in home runs, and in 1970, he trailed Cincinnati Reds catcher Johnny Bench in that category but still led the American League. He launched 10 home runs in 20 at-bats during that 1968 season, setting an active record for the most home runs in a week.

“I wish I had more weeks like that, because I could have earned a few dollars.”
