Nathan Redmond has talked about how challenging it is to play against Kyle Walker, a defender for Manchester City.
The winger, who joined Burnley on a free transfer from Besiktas during the previous summer window, is currently being managed by former City defender Vincent Kompany.
Redmond, who has participated in 276 Premier League games in his career, has provided some insight into his experiences facing up against a certain opponent.
Walker is a “nightmare” to play against, according to Redmond.
Redmond recently addressed Walker in a video posted on the Sky Sports Premier League YouTube page, describing him as the most difficult opponent he has ever faced.
“I’ve fought him a lot over the years, and I know Walks pretty well anyhow, but the strength, the power, and the pace,” he remarked.
“In addition, I’m noticing intelligence a little bit more now that I’m working with Vinny, who has obviously worked with Pep [Guardiola] for a very long time. I’m noticing a lot of the structures, play patterns, and positional elements that are necessary both when the ball is in play and when it isn’t.
Playing against Walks was a nightmare; in a one-on-one situation, he is effective, but occasionally, when he goes into the pocket, you may believe you have a little more time before collapsing. There’s also the additional factor of having to track back, which is a winger’s worst nightmare when they lose possession of the ball.
Redmond has played Walker—whom City acquired for £50 million in 2017—13 times in the Premier League. In eleven of those encounters, the full-back has come out on top, with two draws and no losses.
Redmond is not the only attacking player to struggle against the 33-year-old; Walker received notable recognition from Thierry Henry for his ability to prevent Vinicius Junior from making an impact during the second leg of the Champions League semifinal at the Etihad Stadium last season.
In light of everything mentioned above, it should come as no surprise that the Burnley attacker identified the England international as the most formidable opponent he has ever encountered on the field.
