Recently, Kieran Tierney has been speaking candidly with the Spanish media about his immediate future, discussing both Real Sociedad and Arsenal, while making a statement that will no doubt delight Hoops supporters.
After missing nine Sociedad games due to a hamstring injury, the former Celtics star has resumed playing frequently for the La Liga team.
However, after missing time due to injury, Tierney returned to his position as the Spanish team’s first-choice left-back in December and into January.
Given that he is expected to stay at Sociedad until the end of the season, it is not surprising to learn from a recent interview that he has no plans to leave.
A report suggested that because of Oleksandr Zinchenko’s recent injury, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta would call up Tierney. However, Tierney has no intention of returning to North London in the January transfer window.
Freelance writer Mark Walker cited Tierney as saying, “Several people have already asked me if I was going to return to Arsenal now and the answer is no.” The statement was published in The Herald and the Daily Record. Without a doubt, I will remain here.
“I don’t make the decision to stay here longer. All I can say, though, is that I enjoy playing for Real. And I’m having a great time with it.
“He [Mikel Arteta] is doing great. I was a big bench warmer and didn’t play last year. However, since this is football, I don’t mind. I felt good despite playing roughly 30 games and mostly coming off the bench. I had nearly no injuries.
Tierney continued talking about his time at Celtic, and since we all know it’s true, what he says doesn’t really surprise Hoops fans these days.
Tierney told the Spanish media that she has been a lifelong Celtic supporter, stating, “I signed for Celtic at seven years old.” I shall always be of Celtic descent. Continually, without fail.
“When I consider my time at Celtic, where I joined the first squad straight out of the academy, I picture Jon Pacheco and Martín Zubimendi, and that was also the case with them at Real.
They see it as their Celtic team, and everyone adores them. And since I joined the club at the age of seven, it was very amazing for me to make the first team. There are fifteen players like that here. It’s amazing.
“I had previously received offers from Arsenal, but I wasn’t interested in leaving Celtic because I was content there. However, when they made me another proposal, it was much more money, Celtic took a large portion, and I was able to play in a higher division, so everyone came out ahead.
“I wasn’t unhappy at Celtic; leaving wasn’t my choice, but it worked out well.”
