The early signing day has passed, so it’s time to start paying attention to the transfer portal. Auburn did an excellent job finishing off signing day and pulling in a quality class, so now it’s time to finish strong in the portal.
Many talented athletes in the transfer portal would improve Auburn’s 2024 roster.
Let’s take a look at three names Auburn fans should keep an eye on via the transfer portal.
AJ Harris, Georgia, CB
This season, AJ Harris was a freshman at Georgia with eight tackles in his brief tenure in Athens. He was a five-star prospect in the 2023 class from Phenix City, Alabama, who chose to play for the Dawgs across state lines. If Auburn is able to sign Harris, it would be a huge addition at a time when several of the Tigers’ secondary players are leaving for the NFL. Adding a former five-star athlete with a large amount of eligibility remaining would be a significant boost for this Auburn team.
Michigan State’s Derrick Harmon, DL
Derrick Harmon is a defensive lineman who started his career with the Michigan State Spartans, where he played alongside Auburn quarterback Payton Thorne. Harmon has 40 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and a forced fumble last season. Auburn is looking for a couple defensive lineman, and Harmon would be a fantastic fit. He has a ton of offers from top institutions in the country, so landing him would be a huge coup for Hugh Freeze and his crew.
Rico Walker, tight end, Maryland
Rico Walker is a freshman tight end from Hickory, North Carolina, who began his collegiate football career at Maryland and will be competing in the Music City Bowl for Auburn. Walker is six-foot-four and weighs 248 pounds, making him the ideal size for his position. He was a four-star recruit out of high school who decided to enter the portal after catching only four receptions for 27 yards his rookie year. Auburn would benefit from having another really excellent tight end in the rotation behind Rivaldo Fairweather, so this is a fantastic fit.
