December 20, 2023 — Jermod McCoy (@Jermodmccoy)
Jermod McCoy had 31 tackles, 7 pass defenses, and 2 interceptions as a rookie in 2023.
McCoy was a three-star talent out of Texas’ Whitehouse High School. However, as a result of his outstanding rookie campaign, McCoy was regarded as a 4-star transfer potential.
McCoy chose Tennessee over Texas A&M, Oregon, Oklahoma, and other schools.
“Tennessee checked all the boxes,” said McCoy. “They offered opportunities because they had two corners leaving and the coaches were straight forward with me and my family.”
The Tennessee coaching staff, particularly defensive backs coach Willie Martinez, was lauded by the young defensive back.
“I loved Coach Martinez,” McCoy remarked. “He showed me how I fit into the defense and they play a mixture of press man and zone which I think fits my game.”
The Vols’ secondary has seen Doneiko Slaughter, Tamarion McDonald, Warren Burrell, Jack Luttrell, Brandon Turnage, and De’Shawn Rucker go this summer, so there are plenty of opportunities.
Jermod McCoy is the third D-I athlete to move to Knoxville, following tight end Holden Staes and safety Jakobe Thomas.
