Maalik Murphy has committed to Duke football after leaving Texas.
Maalik Murphy is on his way to Duke!
Maalik Murphy has found a new home not long after deciding to leave the Texas Longhorns and entering the transfer portal. According to the most recent sources, he is on his way to North Carolina to join the Duke football team.
Murphy has sparked a lot of interest since he became available on the transfer portal, with both USC football and Georgia looking to sign him. Baylor, South Carolina, and Oregon State have also expressed interest. Unfortunately for the aforementioned well-regarded programs, Murphy couldn’t resist the temptation of playing for the Blue Devils and being an instant contributor to the club.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Duke football and Murphy have a “verbal commitment” already, with a formal announcement due soon. Murphy, who has three years of eligibility left, will be eligible for the Blue Devils and new head coach Manny Diaz immediately.
“According to reports, former Texas quarterback Maalik Murphy has verbally committed to Duke.” A formal announcement will be made soon. “With three years remaining, he’ll be eligible immediately, providing first-year coach Manny Diaz with a key building block to begin his tenure,” Thamel wrote in his article.
Riley Leonard, who recently transferred to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, will be replaced by Maalik Murphy. Murphy will have lots of opportunity to start and show off his abilities, which may be difficult to come by in Texas with both Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning remaining. Murphy has 477 yards and three touchdowns against three interceptions in seven appearances in 2023, including two starts in injury relief.
Murphy will hopefully thrive at Duke football and lead the Blue Devils to new heights.
