Joe Flacco Gets a Message from the Browns About Possibly Returning
The Cleveland Browns are willing to bring back Joe Flacco to back up Deshaun Watson in the next season after realizing the benefits of a seasoned backup.
After playing for the Browns for the second half of the season, Flacco is a free agent. With four wins from his regular-season starts, Flacco helped the Browns secure a postseason berth. Flacco did, however, end his career with a bang, throwing two interceptions that were recovered for scores in Cleveland’s 45-14 Wild Card round loss to the Houston Texans.
Flacco set the Browns offense in motion despite having a difficult postseason performance. With a QB rating of 90.2, the 39-year-old completed 1,616 passes for 13 touchdowns and 8 interceptions.
At his season-ending press conference on Monday, January 22, Browns general manager Andrew Berry stated, “He played winning football for us.” “I would want to have all of our talented players return, but there are limitations. Even though I kind of lean both ways, I wouldn’t mind having Joe back.
There was some discussion regarding Watson’s failure with the Browns following Flacco’s performance. When Watson joined the squad this year, they were 5-1; as of now, they are 8-4. Though he hasn’t looked like the Pro Bowl quarterback he was with the Houston Texans for a lengthy stretch of time, Watson has had his moments.
Berry is not at all concerned that Flacco would increase Watson’s workload if he takes on the backup role.

The enthusiasm in the streets was palpable. They are hankering after a Super Bowl opportunity and some postseason victories.

To acquire Watson, the Browns had to forfeit a sizable number of first-round selection picks. In addition, they agreed to an unprecedented $230 million fully guaranteed contract with him, presuming he could turn Cleveland into a consistent title challenger in the future.
Since the deal, Watson has played in just 12 of the 34 games. Due to a suspension, he was sidelined for 11 games the previous season and lost some time this year with shoulder issues. Berry does not run away from the idea that his availability for additional games is something the organization would want to see. He did, however, add that the group is OK with Watson’s current position.
Berry remarked, “We’d all love to see him on the field more often.” “Feel really good about him, happy with the progress that he’s made within our organization, both on the field and off. We’re eager for him to return the following year. We are really confident in him as our starting quarterback and believe he will have an incredible year.
According to Berry, the team intends to carry three quarterbacks. If Flacco returns, it is assumed that Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who made a few starts as a rookie, will be the third.
