HEARTS HERO BEAU REUS NAMED UEFA SAVE OF THE WEEK — KEEPER’S PENALTY HEROICS SEAL HISTORIC PROGRESSION

EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND  — Heart of Midlothian goalkeeper Beau Reus has received official confirmation from UEFA that one of his two stunning penalty saves in last week’s Conference League play-off triumph over Rapid Vienna has been voted Save of the Week — crowning a magical few days for the 24-year-old summer arrival, whose heroics have already written his name into Tynecastle folklore.

The Dutch-born stopper produced the performance of his young career in Vienna, keeping his cool through 120 gruelling minutes before emerging as the undisputed hero of the shootout. With the tie locked at 4–4 on aggregate after a dramatic 2–2 draw, and Hearts reduced to ten men for much of the second half, Reus stood tall — saving two penalties in the shootout to secure a 4–3 victory and book the club’s place in the Conference League league phase .

His stop from Marco Tilio — a sharp, low drive toward the corner — was selected by UEFA’s technical panel as the competition’s standout save of the week, earning widespread acclaim across Europe. Reus also denied Moulaye Haidara earlier in the shootout, giving Calvin Miller, Jesper Altena, Rogers Mato and Sabah Kerjota the platform to convert their penalties and seal a result widely described as Hearts’ most significant European away win in more than two decades.

“It is honestly beyond my wildest dreams,” Reus told reporters after the announcement. “I only arrived here this summer, so to be part of a night like that — and now to be recognised by UEFA — is something I will never forget. But this belongs to the team. We were down to ten men, away from home, against a very good side — and we just refused to let go. That’s the spirit of this club.”

Head coach Wouter Vrancken was quick to praise his new signing: “Beau showed incredible composure. Penalty shootouts are cruel, but he looked like he belonged on the biggest stage. He has only been with us a short time, yet he has already given our fans a memory that will last forever.”

The victory makes Hearts the first Scottish club outside the Old Firm to win a European play-off tie on the road, and sets up a mouth-watering league phase including Monaco, Trabzonspor, Pafos, Nordsjælland and Borac. For Reus, the message is clear: the gloves are off, and the journey has only just begun.
