Fans Get Ready: Never Seen Before — Netflix To Unveil John Robertson Archive
EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND – Heart of Midlothian supporters and football historians worldwide are set for an unprecedented treat, as Netflix has officially announced plans to release a vast, never-before-seen collection of documents, personal records, and memorabilia chronicling the life, career, and legacy of John Robertson — Hearts’ greatest ever player — from his first appearance in maroon through to his passing on Christmas Day 2025.
The announcement marks the first time such an extensive archive has been made public, offering an intimate look at the man who remains the club’s undisputed all-time leading goalscorer. Across two legendary spells at Tynecastle, Robertson netted 289 goals in 632 appearances, a record that stands untouched and likely never will be broken. He lifted the Scottish Cup in 1997/98, claimed the Scottish Golden Boot in 1989/90, and was inducted into the Hearts Hall of Fame in 2006 — cementing his status as a true icon.
But his story extended far beyond Gorgie. Robertson was also a Nottingham Forest legend, making over 500 appearances and scoring 95 goals under Brian Clough, who famously called him “the Picasso of Football” for his sublime, unique talent. He set up the winning goal in the 1979 European Cup final and scored the decisive strike in the 1980 final, securing back-to-back continental crowns. A 28-cap Scotland international, he featured at both the 1978 and 1982 World Cups.
The football world mourned when he passed away on December 25, 2025, aged 72, following a long illness. Now, Netflix will bring his journey to screens — tracing his rise, his triumphs, his battles, and his enduring legacy.
“This is something no one has ever seen before,” a Netflix spokesperson confirmed. “We have been granted access to personal letters, diaries, match-day notes, and family records that tell the full story of one of Scottish football’s most complex and gifted figures.”
For Hearts fans, it is a chance to reconnect with their greatest hero. For football lovers everywhere, it is an opportunity to celebrate a genius the game will never forget.
