Hearts Legend Rudi Skácel Returns As Senior Coach Ahead Of New Season

EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND – There is pure joy at Tynecastle today. Heart of Midlothian have officially welcomed one of their greatest ever players — Rudi Skácel — back to the club as part of the senior coaching staff, a homecoming that has sent waves of excitement through the fanbase ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Skácel is not just a former player; he is a living legend, a modern-day icon whose name is etched into Hearts folklore. Across two unforgettable spells at the club (2005–06 and 2010–12), the Czech midfielder established himself as one of the most beloved figures in the club’s history, scoring 48 goals in just 109 appearances — a staggering return for a midfielder that speaks to his incredible ability to arrive in the box and strike with devastating power.

He made an instant, historic impact: in his debut 2005/06 season under George Burley, he scored in his first seven consecutive league games, finishing the campaign with 16 goals and announcing himself as a generational talent. His trophy haul includes two Scottish Cup wins — in 2006, and most famously in 2012, when he delivered a career-defining masterclass in the final, scoring twice in the legendary 5–1 rout of Hibernian to seal the trophy in emphatic fashion.

A derby specialist with a thunderous left foot, Skácel earned cult status for his clutch performances against both Hibernian and the Old Firm, rising to the biggest occasions when it mattered most. Now, he brings that winning mentality and deep understanding of the club’s identity back to the dugout.

“Rudi is Hearts through and through,” the club confirmed. “His passion, his knowledge, and the respect he commands make him an invaluable addition. He knows what this club means — and he knows how to win.”

For supporters old and new, it feels like a piece of the family has come home. A legend returns — and the 2026/27 season just got a whole lot brighter.
