Brock Purdy of the 49ers stays competitive by using his own drive.
INSANITY, California Brock Purdy was a thing long before he became the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, a Pro Bowl player, and an MVP contender.
At the Niners’ 2022 Halloween party, Purdy dressed as Thing 1, his go-to costume together with offensive lineman Nick Zakelj and Alfredo Gutierrez, who were his teammates, roommates at the time, and characters from Dr. Seuss’ “The Cat in the Hat.”
After losing to the Chiefs eight days prior, the 49ers had reason for optimism with their recent acquisition of Christian McCaffrey, a running back.
There was a quick football get-away that Halloween night at Khartoum Lounge in nearby Campbell, California. Purdy showed promise in practice, but he was Jimmy Garoppolo’s backup. At last, he was at ease enough to let his guard down around his teammates.
Following two touchdown passes by Purdy in the first half of the Niners’ eventual 33-17 victory, Kittle entered the locker room, kicked Purdy’s chair, and told him he was crazy. Kittle, the tight end, reminded the quarterback he’d talked it into being when Purdy inquired what he meant.

That would be the last time Purdy was questioned by anyone in the Niners building. But there are plenty of Purdy skeptics outside the 49ers stadium.

As the head coach of the San Tan Youth Football League’s “Special Forces” in Queen Creek, Arizona, Randy Gardner had an 11-year-old quarterback when Purdy joined the squad.
What was Purdy’s favorite spot to play tackle football in his first season? quarterback. However, he was assigned to right tackle and occasionally received quarterback reps as the new player. That was altered when the Special Forces scored three touchdowns in the championship game.

Purdy showed that he was ready when he arrived to Perry High School in Gilbert, Arizona, by dominating the freshman squad. He spent time with another quarterback as a sophomore. As a junior, he assumed the starting role and guided Perry to two state runner-up finishes.
Purdy started his freshman season at Iowa State in 2018 ranked third on the depth chart, but he threw for 318 yards and four touchdowns in Week 2 after entering the game against Oklahoma State.

Though Warner was aware of the rumors circulating regarding his ability to continue, those queries were posed long before social media and its never-ending stream of commentary emerged.

It is possible to improve, though. Purdy suggests carrying on with his passing mechanics work to increase his throwing force and velocity. In addition, he says he wants to keep improving his decision-making and pocket maneuvers so he can “win games with my mind over just trying to be a superhero.”
