Hearts Welcome Cult Hero Rudi Skácel Back to Tynecastle in Senior Coaching Role
Heart of Midlothian has delivered a major boost to supporters ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, officially confirming the return of club legend Rudi Skácel as part of the senior coaching staff. One of the most beloved figures in the club’s modern history, the attacking midfielder remains widely regarded as one of the greatest players to ever represent the Gorgie side.
Skácel first arrived at Tynecastle on loan from Marseille in 2005, and immediately made an indelible mark. He set a new club record by scoring in his first seven consecutive Scottish Premier League appearances, firing Hearts to an eight-match winning run and playing a starring role as they secured third place in the top flight – their highest finish in over a decade. That same season, his contributions proved vital in the 2006 Scottish Cup triumph over Gretna, earning him a permanent move to Edinburgh soon after.
Across two separate spells with the Jambos, Skácel made 109 competitive appearances and plundered 48 goals – an extraordinary return for a midfielder. He cemented his status as a true club icon by lifting the Scottish Cup for a second time in 2012, producing one of the most memorable performances in Edinburgh derby history with a stunning brace in the 5-1 final demolition of Hibernian. He also finished as Hearts’ top scorer in the 2010/11 campaign with 13 goals, and remains a figure revered by fans for his technique, tireless work rate and big-match temperament.
“I never forgot the feeling of pulling on that maroon shirt or the connection I shared with these fans,” Skácel told the club’s official website. “This club holds a huge piece of my heart, and I’m determined to help this group of players create their own special memories here.”
Hearts manager Liam Fox added: “Rudi’s legacy speaks for itself. He knows exactly what it takes to succeed at this club, what the supporters demand, and how to perform when the pressure is highest. His experience, winning mentality and deep understanding of our identity will be invaluable to everyone at Tynecastle.”
Supporters have already welcomed the news with widespread delight, with many hailing the appointment as “perfect timing” as Hearts prepare for both domestic challenges and European football next term.
