Roosters Secure Second Manly Star in Talau for 2026
In a double boost to their outside-back stocks ahead of the 2026 NRL season, the Sydney Roosters have signed Manly Sea Eagles veteran Tommy Talau, marking their second recruitment raid on the northern beaches club.
The Roosters confirmed on Monday that Talau, 25, has penned a one-year deal, joining immediately to bolster depth amid impending backline transitions. With 83 NRL appearances since his 2019 debut, the versatile centre and wing adds proven experience to Bondi Junction.
This signing follows the earlier capture of another Manly star, underscoring the Roosters’ strategic focus on strengthening their external options as several high-profile backline players face departure or retirement in the coming years. Head of Recruitment Joel Carbone highlighted Talau’s reliability and adaptability as key assets. “Tommy’s signature adds valuable depth and experience to our backline,” Carbone said. “He’s a strong competitor who has shown consistency at NRL level, and we believe he’ll complement our existing talent.”
Talau’s ability to cover multiple positions aligns with the Roosters’ priority on roster flexibility, helping navigate injuries, State of Origin absences, and evolving squad structures. His arrival signals the club’s proactive planning beyond 2026, ensuring a smooth transition into their next competitive phase while capitalising on a golden opportunity to secure established NRL quality from a rival.
