PARRAMATTA EELS ANNOUNCE TWO-MONTH STADIUM RENOVATION TO BOOST COMFORT AHEAD OF 2026 SEASON.

The Parramatta Eels have today announced a major two-month renovation of their home ground CommBank Stadium, designed to upgrade facilities to meet the latest modern standards and enhance fan comfort ahead of the 2026 NRL season.

The 30,000-seat venue – officially named Western Sydney Stadium – opened in 2019 on the site of the old Parramatta Stadium (formerly Cumberland Oval) and also serves as the home of A-League side Western Sydney Wanderers. While already regarded as one of Sydney’s most contemporary sporting venues, club officials say the renovation will address emerging fan expectations and ensure the stadium remains at the forefront of Australian sports infrastructure.

“The feedback from our members and supporters has been clear – while they love the stadium’s atmosphere, there are areas where we can improve their match-day experience,” said Eels CEO Jim Sarantinos in today’s announcement. “This two-month project will deliver immediate fixes that align with current modern standards, making every visit more comfortable and enjoyable for everyone who walks through the gates.”

The renovation, set to commence in October 2025 following the conclusion of the 2025 NRL and A-League seasons, will focus on key fan-facing areas. Plans include upgrading all concession stands with faster service technology and expanded food and beverage options, installing new more ergonomic seating in selected grandstand sections, and improving accessibility features for fans with disabilities – including wider pathways and additional accessible viewing platforms.

Other improvements will include upgrading the stadium’s audio-visual system with clearer sound coverage across all areas and new high-definition screens in concourse spaces, as well as refreshing public toilets and adding more shaded seating zones to combat Western Sydney’s summer heat.

Despite the significant works, the two-month timeline ensures the stadium will be fully operational in time for pre-season matches in early 2026, with no disruption to scheduled events. The project is being funded through a joint partnership between the Eels, stadium operators Venues NSW, and the New South Wales Government, reflecting a shared commitment to supporting Western Sydney’s sporting infrastructure.

CommBank Stadium has quickly become a landmark in Parramatta’s growing CBD, hosting major events including NRL finals, State of Origin matches, and international soccer games. The renovation aims to build on this success, creating a more welcoming and comfortable environment that will strengthen the venue’s position as a premier destination for sport and entertainment in Australia.

“This isn’t just about fixing what’s there – it’s about shaping a stadium that truly feels like home for our fans as we head into an exciting new era for the Eels,” Sarantinos added.
