GEELONG FOOTBALL CLUB WRAPS 2025 AT GMHBA STADIUM AGM

Key stakeholders gather as Chris Scott secures long-term extension and board returns unopposed

Geelong Football Club concluded its 2025 season at the Annual General Meeting held at GMHBA Stadium on Thursday evening, with members and key stakeholders in attendance for a night of reflection and future planning.

Club President Grant McCabe opened proceedings with an address recapping the year’s highlights and challenges, followed by a detailed financial update. The board of directors and executive team then fielded questions from members covering the club’s past performance, current operations and strategic vision.

In a smooth governance outcome, seven nominations were received for the seven board positions – whose three-year terms expired at the meeting. In line with the club’s constitution, all nominees were declared elected unopposed. The returning board includes Grant McCabe, Lyndsay Sharp, Kate Betts, Barry Fagg, Kate Spargo, James Agar and Andrew McDonald.

The evening’s biggest announcement came from McCabe, who revealed head coach Chris Scott had signed a contract extension through to the end of the 2029 AFL season. Already the longest-serving coach in Geelong’s V/AFL history, Scott has spent 15 seasons at the helm, overseeing 360 games to 2025.

His impressive resume features four Grand Final appearances, two premiership wins and two All-Australian coach selections. Scott currently sits 18th on the all-time V/AFL games coached list and is tied for eighth with 33 finals matches.

The AGM closed with McCabe expressing confidence in the club’s direction, noting the stable board and extended coaching tenure would provide the foundation for continued success in the years ahead.
