ROOSTERS STAR MOALE THREATENS EARLY DEPARTURE: SYDNEY BOUND AS RABBITOHS GRANT RELEASE

Sydney Roosters front-row powerhouse Davvy Moale has sent shockwaves through his current club by threatening to walk away with immediate effect – a move that has prompted South Sydney Rabbitohs to grant his contract release, clearing the path for his NRL switch.

The 22-year-old, who had already committed to join Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles in 2027, made his stance clear: unless released early to take up a deal with another NRL side, he would depart without delay. The Rabbitohs acted swiftly to avoid a messy stand-off, confirming the immediate termination of his playing contract.

Moale’s time at South Sydney has been impressive, with 70 NRL games under his belt since making his debut against St George Illawarra Dragons in round 20, 2021. A dominant presence in the forward pack, his physicality and work rate have made him a valuable asset – qualities that caught the Roosters’ eye and led to their pursuit amid his departure threat.

Internationally, he has represented the Cook Islands in nine Test matches since 2022, establishing himself as a key figure in their national side.

Rabbitohs CEO Blake Solly expressed goodwill towards the departing prop, saying: “Davvy and his management came to us seeking a release to take up an opportunity at another club, before he heads to the Sea Eagles in 2027, and we have granted that release. We have enjoyed working with Davvy for a number of seasons now and wish him the best of luck. He will always be regarded as a South Sydney Rabbitoh.”

The Roosters’ acquisition of Moale adds significant depth to their front row ahead of the upcoming season, while the Rabbitohs now face the task of replacing a player who has been a consistent performer in their ranks.
