PANTHERS LEGEND ALEXANDER SHARES DEVASTATING NEWS OF SISTER’S PASSING
Rugby league icon Greg “Brandy” Alexander has announced the tragic death of his sister, Megan, in an emotional statement that has sent ripples through the Penrith Panthers community and the wider NRL fraternity.
The 60-year-old Hall of Famer, who captained the Panthers to their historic first premiership in 1991, revealed the news in a heartfelt post on social media earlier today, describing his sister as “the heart of our family” and a constant source of strength throughout his life and career.
“Megan was more than just my sister – she was my biggest cheerleader, my confidant, and the person who kept me grounded through every high and low,” Alexander wrote. “Losing her leaves an irreplaceable void, and we are all devastated beyond words.”
The former halfback’s achievements at Penrith are unparalleled. After making his first-grade debut in 1984, he was named Dally M Rookie of the Year in the same season, before claiming the Dally M Player of the Year award just 12 months later – a testament to his extraordinary talent and rapid rise to stardom.
Alexander went on to score over 1,000 points and 100 tries for the club, becoming a foundational member of their golden era in the late 1980s and early 1990s. His leadership in the 1991 grand final, where the Panthers defeated the Canberra Raiders 19-12, cemented his legacy as one of the greatest players in the club’s history, earning him induction into the Penrith Panthers Hall of Fame in 2006.
Tributes have poured in from current and former players, with Panthers coach Ivan Cleary describing Alexander as “a club legend and a beautiful person who has given so much to rugby league.” Former teammate Mark Geyer, who famously dated Megan in the 1980s, shared a poignant memory of their time together, calling her “a kind, vibrant soul who touched everyone she met.”
Alexander, who now works as a Fox League commentator and Panthers director, has asked for privacy as his family navigates their grief. “We thank everyone for their love and support during this impossible time,” he said. “Megan will live on in our hearts forever.”
