For Michigan football next season, a lot of new players will be expected to step up and perform well.

But will there be a well-known figure who makes a comeback? Running back Donovan Edwards.

The star player from Michigan’s 34-13 national championship win over Washington, who hails from West Bloomfield, declared on Monday morning that he will return to Ann Arbor for his senior year instead of entering the 2024 NFL draft.

His post said, “I’m back.”

The fact that this happened just one day after fellow 2020 recruit J.J. McCarthy declared for the draft on Sunday makes it especially noteworthy. On Monday, underclassmen had the option to either return for their senior season or enter the draft.

With 113 carries for 393 yards (3.5 yards per attempt) and three touchdowns through the first 14 games of the season, Edwards had a difficult season overall. But in a huge game away from the Big House, Edwards produced two career-defining, show-stopping home run scampers for the second time.
