Flau’jae Johnson: Beauty Standards, LSU’s Final Season, and WNBA Dreams
Flau’jae Johnson embodies the best of both worlds, a sentiment perfectly captured by her choice of Puma sweatpants, a Sp5der hoodie, and a vintage Hannah Montana tee. “I literally bought this thrifting outside of Cam Kirk Studios. I love Miley Cyrus,” Johnson told Teen Vogue in Atlanta. “I named my album ‘Best of Both Worlds,’ and I feel like she represents me. I put that together because she was a normal person, and then she was a superstar. That’s me.”
The night before her Teen Vogue cover shoot, Johnson expressed excitement about stepping “into somebody else’s playing field” during her fitting. However, she’s no stranger to photo shoots, having previously graced the cover of SLAM magazine twice alongside her LSU teammates.
While Johnson is adept at navigating the basketball court, she approached the eight-inch Marc Jacobs boots with caution. Despite her reservations, her years of basketball training instilled a deep trust in her team, a quality that extends to the world of fashion.
“I get high fashion, but still, it’s got to be in the way I’m comfortable. That’s why I ask a lot of questions,” she explained. “Is this a collaborative effort or do stylists take full control?”
The next morning, as Megan Thee Stallion’s “Her” filled the Four Seasons Hotel Atlanta penthouse, Johnson transformed in front of the cameras. Her mother and manager, Kia Brooks, radiated pride and excitement.
“Oh, this is hard,” Johnson exclaimed, donning an animal print Theophilio jacket that evoked LSU Tigers energy. As she enters her final year of college basketball, Johnson is preparing for the evolving landscape of professional women’s basketball. Designer clothes, flashing cameras, and adoring fans are just the beginning.
Flau’jae Monae Johnson, also known as “Big 4,” is a 21-year-old senior guard on the LSU women’s basketball team. Beyond being last season’s leading scorer, she is a rapper, businesswoman, philanthropist, former reality TV star, and a 2023 NCAA champion. With a thriving music career and a promising WNBA future, Johnson, like many Gen Z individuals, refuses to be confined to a single path.
