Tuscaloosa, AL – Former Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Gene Stallings, a revered figure in college football history, is currently facing a series of health challenges. At 89 years old, Stallings has endured multiple health setbacks in recent years, including a significant heart attack in 2017, a hip replacement, and several strokes, the most recent occurring in late 2024.

 

Despite these difficulties, Stallings’ spirit remains strong, and his daughter has reported that he is “doing great” following his latest stroke. His resilience is a testament to the same grit and determination that defined his successful coaching career.

 

Gene Stallings etched his name in Alabama football lore during his seven seasons as head coach (1990-1996), leading the Crimson Tide to a 1992 National Championship and a perfect 13-0 record. His overall record of 70-16-1 speaks to his consistent excellence, which also included three SEC West divisional titles and five bowl victories.
