Jobe Bellingham Voices Regret Over Dortmund Move
In a candid interview, Jobe Bellingham has expressed a tinge of regret over his move to Borussia Dortmund, admitting that he misses the regular playing time he enjoyed at Sunderland. The younger brother of England international Jude Bellingham made the switch to the Bundesliga giants with high hopes, but has found himself relegated to a bit-part role, often warming the bench.
“I miss Sunderland,” Bellingham confessed. “The fans, the stadium, the feeling of being on the pitch every week – it’s something I took for granted. At Dortmund, the competition is fierce, and I respect that, but it’s tough when you’re not playing as much as you’d like.”
Bellingham’s move to Dortmund was seen as a significant step in his career, a chance to test himself at a higher level and develop his skills alongside some of Europe’s top talents. However, the reality has been somewhat different. Despite his potential, he has struggled to break into the first team, with opportunities limited to substitute appearances and occasional starts in less important matches.
“I knew it wouldn’t be easy,” Bellingham said. “Dortmund is a top club with world-class players. But I believed in myself, and I thought I could make more of an impact. Maybe I was a bit naive.”
At Sunderland, Bellingham was a key player, a regular starter who contributed consistently to the team’s performances. He thrived in the Championship, showcasing his versatility, technical ability, and eye for goal. It was this promise that convinced Dortmund to invest in him, but so far, he has been unable to replicate that form in Germany.
“I learned so much at Sunderland,” Bellingham reflected. “The manager, the staff, the players – they all helped me grow as a footballer and as a person. I’m grateful for my time there, and I’ll always have a special connection with the club.”
Bellingham’s situation at Dortmund raises questions about the pressure young players face to move to bigger clubs, even if it means sacrificing playing time. While the allure of playing in the Champions League and competing for major trophies is undeniable, the reality is that not every move works out as planned.
“I’m not giving up,” Bellingham insisted. “I’m determined to prove myself at Dortmund and show everyone what I’m capable of. But I won’t lie, there are times when I wonder if I made the right decision. Maybe I should have stayed at Sunderland a bit longer, continued my development there, and then made the move when I was more ready.”
