Neuhaus Faces Suspension After Mocking Former Gladbach Director

Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus has landed in hot water after a video surfaced showing him seemingly mocking the club’s former sporting director, Roland Virkus. As a result, Neuhaus has been fined and suspended from first-team activities.

The video, which circulated on social media, depicts Neuhaus in conversation with individuals clad in Gladbach kits. During the exchange, the 28-year-old midfielder appears to label Virkus “the worst manager in the world” and alludes to the sporting director’s involvement in determining his annual salary of four million euros ($4.71 million).

In response to the incident, Borussia Mönchengladbach has taken swift action, imposing a “heavy” fine on Neuhaus and suspending him from training with the first team for a period of four weeks. According to German daily Bild, the fine is estimated to be around 100,000 euros.

“The behavior and statements of Florian Neuhaus are damaging to the club and unacceptable,” stated Gladbach’s CEO, Stefan Stegemann, on Thursday. “He has damaged the club with his words and deeply disappointed the people involved, which is not compatible with the values of the club.”

Neuhaus joined Gladbach in 2017 and has since accumulated over 200 appearances across all competitions. However, his role diminished last season, primarily featuring as a substitute and making only 17 league appearances as the team finished 10th.

The incident has sparked debate among fans and pundits alike, with many questioning Neuhaus’s judgment and professionalism. While his talent is undeniable, his recent actions have cast a shadow over his future with the club. It remains to be seen how Neuhaus will respond to this setback and whether he can regain the trust of the club and its supporters.
