After a busy few months, Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Jake Diebler met with the media on Monday to discuss the upcoming season.

Diebler replaced former head coach Chris Holtmann, who is currently at DePaul, following his dismissal from the Buckeyes last season with a 14-11 record. Entering his first full season in charge, Diebler is prepared to go on and usher in a new era.

According to Eleven Warriors, Diebler stated, “We have to turn the page and be a completely different program.” “… having worked at every level in between in my career, I believe is really valuable. I believe it gives me really good perspective. I’ve had the good fortune to work with and for some high-level coaches.”

By the end of the 2023–24 regular season, the Buckeyes were on the verge of qualifying for the NCAA Tournament, but Diebler—who was then wearing the interim tag—played a key role in getting Ohio State there in the first place. He succeeded Holtmann, who was sacked the day after the Buckeyes fell to Wisconsin 62–54. Four days later, Diebler led Ohio State to a 73-69 victory over then-No. 2 Purdue.

Following their split with Holtmann, Ohio State finished the season with an 8-3 record under Diebler. The Buckeyes came dangerously close to defeating Illinois in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals, but had to settle for a quarterfinal loss to Georgia in the NIT rather than an outstanding late-season run to the March Madness bracket.

As part of the Hall of Fame Series, Ohio State will take on the Texas Longhorns at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Monday, Nov. 4 to start the regular season.
