JOY AT SUNCORP STADIUM AS BRISBANE BRONCOS WELCOME BACK LEGEND DENAN KEMP IN NEW COACHING ROLE

There were scenes of celebration at Suncorp Stadium today as the Brisbane Broncos announced the return of former player Denan Kemp to the club in the dual role of Senior Player Fitness Coach and Mental Wellbeing Mentor for young players.

The appointment marks a homecoming for Kemp, who came through the Broncos’ junior pathways system before making his first grade debut for the club in round 10 of the 2007 NRL season, facing off against the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles at Brookvale Oval. The talented outside back went on to represent the Broncos in 23 matches across two seasons, becoming a fan favourite for his tenacious playing style and commitment to the club’s values.

Broncos CEO Dave Donaghy addressed the media at today’s launch event, highlighting the significance of bringing Kemp back to Red Hill. “Denan embodies everything we stand for as a club – passion, dedication and a deep connection to our Brisbane community,” he said. “His unique combination of elite playing experience and specialized expertise in fitness and mental health will be invaluable to our entire squad, particularly our emerging young talent who need guidance both on and off the field.”

Kemp, who has spent the past decade building a successful career in high-performance coaching and sports psychology after retiring from professional rugby league, expressed his excitement at returning to where his NRL journey began. “Walking back into Suncorp Stadium today filled me with so much emotion – this place will always feel like home,” he said. “I’ve seen firsthand how critical physical preparation and mental resilience are to succeeding at the highest level, and I’m committed to helping every player reach their full potential while ensuring their wellbeing is our top priority.”

The 37-year-old will oversee all aspects of the playing group’s fitness programs, working closely with the club’s medical and conditioning staff to optimize performance and reduce injury rates. In addition, he will lead targeted initiatives to support the development of the Broncos’ junior and emerging senior players, providing one-on-one mentoring and group workshops focused on mental skills, career planning and personal growth.

Broncos captain Adam Reynolds welcomed the appointment, stating: “Having someone with Denan’s background in the club will be a huge boost for everyone. The younger guys will benefit so much from his experience, and his approach to fitness and mental health is exactly what we need as we build towards success.”
