Manhattan, KS: Pete Hughes Extends K-State Baseball Coaching Tenure Through 2026-27 Season

 

Kansas State University has announced a contract extension for head baseball coach Pete Hughes, securing his leadership through the 2026-27 season. The announcement, made Thursday by K-State director of athletics Gene Taylor, follows a unanimous approval from the K-State Athletics, Inc., Board of Directors. The extension signifies a strong vote of confidence in Hughes’s leadership and the progress of the Wildcat baseball program under his guidance.

 

“Coach Hughes is a proven leader of men who has established a great culture inside our baseball program,” Taylor stated in an official press release. “We continue to make progress under his leadership, not only in recruiting and developing baseball players, but also in fostering great students and community leaders.” This statement underscores the university’s commitment to a holistic approach to athletic development, emphasizing academic success and community engagement alongside on-field performance.

 

Hughes’s tenure at Kansas State has been marked by steady improvement. Over the past four seasons, the Wildcats have compiled a 98-92 record, demonstrating consistent competitiveness within the challenging Big 12 Conference. The team has achieved a winning record in three consecutive seasons, a significant accomplishment reflecting Hughes’s coaching acumen and the players’ dedication.

 

The past two seasons have been particularly noteworthy, with the Wildcats accumulating 63 wins. This consistent success has translated into postseason appearances, with the team reaching the semifinal round of the Big 12 Championship in back-to-back years.
