
LSU Women’s Basketball Adds Ukrainian Star Kate Koval to Roster
Baton Rouge, LA – LSU women’s basketball has announced the addition of 6-5 sophomore Kate Koval to its roster for the upcoming season. Koval, a standout forward who most recently played for Notre Dame, brings a wealth of talent and international experience to the Tigers.
“Having recruited Kate out of high school, we are very aligned in our vision for her personal development and the impact she can have on our program,” Coach Kim Mulkey said. “Tiger fans will love the skill, physicality and passion that Kate will bring with her to Baton Rouge!”
Koval had a standout freshman season at Notre Dame, playing a key role in the Irish’s run to the Sweet 16. She averaged 5.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game while leading the team in blocks with 55 total. She showcased her potential early in her career, earning USBWA National Freshman of the Week honors in November after a string of dominant performances.
Born in Kyiv, Ukraine, Koval moved to the United States in 2021 and quickly rose through the ranks, becoming the No. 5 overall player and top-rated post player in the Class of 2024. Her accolades include McDonald’s All-America selection, SLAM All-America honors, and Gatorade Player of the Year in New York. She also boasts international experience, having competed in the U18 and U16 European Championships and the 3×3 U18 World Cup.
Koval joins a talented LSU squad, led by Coach Mulkey, who are looking to build on their recent success. Her arrival is sure to add depth and versatility to the Tigers’ lineup, making them a formidable force in the SEC.
