Dante Exum, a Mavs guard, has impressed Australia during his preparations for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
Dallas Mavericks signed Dante Exum to a two-year, $6.15 million contract after he missed NBA games since 2020-21. Exum will represent Australia at the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, potentially gaining more playing time.
Australian coach Brian Goorjian emphasized the need for more playing time for Exum, who scored eight points, two rebounds, and three assists in just 14 minutes of action against Brazil.
Goorjian suggests that Exum could be given an expanded role alongside Josh Giddey, who is Australia’s primary initiator. Giddey, a pass-first talent, could use threats to attack the paint around him. Goorjian believes that Exum should be more involved in the game and play with Giddey more.
Australia’s basketball team, Goorjian, praised the switching small-ball lineup for their success in Wednesday’s game. Exum, who played 20 minutes in Thursday’s blowout victory over South Sudan, contributed six points, two rebounds, seven assists, and two steals. His veteran experience and style of play helped the team win. Australia’s first match in the FIBA World Cup is scheduled for August 25 against Lauri Markkanen and Finland in Okinawa, Japan.
