Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi and Emre Can Out for Season with ACL Injuries
Borussia Dortmund’s dominant 6-0 victory over Union Berlin on Saturday came at a heavy cost, as key players Karim Adeyemi and Emre Can both suffered ACL injuries, ruling them out for the rest of the season.
The devastating news was confirmed by the club on Sunday, dealing a major blow to Dortmund’s hopes in both the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League. Adeyemi, who had been finding form in recent weeks, went down in the first half with a non-contact injury, immediately signaling trouble. Can, Dortmund’s captain and midfield anchor, followed suit later in the game, limping off in visible pain.
“This is a tough moment for us,” head coach Edin Terzić said after the match. “Losing two key players in such an important phase of the season is heartbreaking. We will support them in their recovery and hope to see them back stronger.”
Adeyemi’s injury is especially frustrating as the 22-year-old winger had just started to regain top form, contributing with pace and creativity. Meanwhile, Can’s absence leaves a massive gap in Dortmund’s midfield, as his leadership and defensive stability have been crucial.
With both players sidelined, Dortmund will now have to rely on their squad depth as they push for a strong finish in the Bundesliga and attempt to make a deep Champions League run. Players like Marcel Sabitzer, Felix Nmecha, and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens will need to step up in their absence.
Dortmund’s next challenge will be a crucial Bundesliga clash, where they’ll aim to continue their strong form despite the injury setbacks. Fans will be hoping for a speedy recovery for both Adeyemi and Can, but their season is unfortunately over.
