Everton Appoint Former Player David Unsworth as New Head Coach After Sacking David Moyes

Everton have officially announced former player and academy coach David Unsworth as their new head coach, following the sacking of David Moyes earlier today. The decision comes after a series of disappointing performances that left the Toffees struggling in the Premier League, forcing the club’s hierarchy to make a swift managerial change.

Unsworth, who previously played for Everton as a defender and later worked as an interim manager, steps into the role with immediate effect. The 50-year-old has been a part of the club’s coaching setup for years, leading the U23 squad to Premier League 2 success and helping develop several young talents. His deep connection with the club and understanding of its culture played a key role in his appointment.

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright expressed confidence in Unsworth’s ability to turn things around, stating:
“David knows this club inside out. His passion, leadership, and experience with our young players make him the ideal person to take charge at this crucial moment. We believe he can bring stability and guide us to a stronger finish this season.”

Moyes, who returned to Everton for a second spell earlier this season, was dismissed after a poor run of results that left the club hovering near the relegation zone. His return to Goodison Park had been met with optimism, but inconsistency and lackluster performances ultimately led to his exit.

Unsworth now faces the challenge of reviving Everton’s season, with his first game in charge set to be a crucial fixture against a fellow relegation rival. Fans will be eager to see if his appointment can bring fresh energy and renewed hope as the club fights to secure its Premier League status.
