Lions’ JALEN REEVES-MAYBIN has been elected as the new president of the NFLPA.
Jalen Reeves-Maybin, a Detroit Lions linebacker and special teams contributor, has been elected as the president of the NFL Players Association by its board of player representatives. Reeves-Maybin succeeds JC Tretter, who served two terms. He aims to serve and unify the membership, inspiring more players to use their voice in advocating for the union and the game. Tretter and DeMaurice Smith led negotiations for the current collective bargaining agreement, which ushered in significant changes to the league’s schedule, including a 17-game regular season, shortened preseason, and expanded playoff format.
NFLPA president, Reeves-Maybin, was appointed less than a year after Lloyd Howell was replaced by Smith. The union may address working condition issues, such as artificial turf in stadiums, as the CBA remains in effect until 2030. Reeves-Maybin signed a two-year, $7.5 million deal in February and was selected for the second team All-Pro nod. The union also elected four new players to its executive leadership: Oren Burks, Cameron Heyward, Case Keenum, and Thomas Hennessy. Thomas Morstead, Calais Campbell, Michael Thomas, Ryan Kelly, Austin Ekeler, and Brandon McManus were re-elected for new two-year terms.
