Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman has developed a potent weapon that could be the key to his team’s success in the upcoming College Football Playoff (CFP) Championship. With the Fighting Irish facing a formidable opponent in Ohio State, Freeman’s strategic moves are gaining attention as he looks to lead his team to its first national title since 1988.

This season, Freeman has focused on building a more dynamic and versatile offense, centered around his star quarterback, Sam Hartman. The senior transfer from Wake Forest has brought a wealth of experience and skill, making Notre Dame’s passing game one of the most potent in the nation. Hartman’s ability to read defenses and make quick, accurate throws has been a game-changer for the Irish, allowing them to break through traditionally strong defenses like those of Ohio State.

However, Freeman’s weapon isn’t just the passing game. He has utilized a balanced attack with a powerful running game, led by running back Audric Estime, whose physical style wears down opposing defenses. The dual-threat offensive system has forced teams to adapt, unable to key in on just one aspect of Notre Dame’s playbook.

Defensively, Freeman’s unit has shown the ability to neutralize high-powered offenses, and against Ohio State’s elite passing attack, it will be crucial. Freeman has instilled a discipline-first mentality, and his defense has responded with a blend of aggressive pass-rushing and coverage schemes designed to stifle quarterbacks like Ohio State’s Kyle McCord. With standout players such as linebacker JD Bertrand and cornerback Benjamin Morrison, Notre Dame’s defense has become a dangerous force in its own right.

Freeman’s game plan is set to test Ohio State’s defense and its ability to adapt to multiple styles of play. If Freeman’s multifaceted weaponry performs as expected, Notre Dame could find itself with a strong chance to upend Ohio State in the CFP Championship.
